Representatives of the project Recognition of UMiD as a training course for active youth participation visited the Municipality of Trebinje on 27 July 2012. They visited the Mayor's Office where the meeting was held. The Mayor of the Municipality of Trebinje Dr. Dobroslav ?uk expressed his willingness to maintain cooperation with the Institute for Youth Development KULT as well as with the training course participants. The meeting was also attended by the representatives of the Department of Economics and Social Affairs Mrs. Željka Kraljevi? and Mr. Duško Miljanovi?, who are in charge of the youth sector.

After a successful meeting held with the Mayor, a visit was made to the youth organisation Youth Centre Trebinje. During this visit, the discussion with Mr. Saša Pešikan revolved around the position of youth and their issues as well as the manner of addressing these issues. The Youth Centre Trebinje and KULT reached a cooperation agreement that will facilitate small initiatives to be launched by the project participants.

It is expected that the ceremony of signing the cooperation agreement with the Municipality of Trebinje will take place soon. Future cooperation between the Municipality of Trebinje and the Institute for Youth Development KULT will be focused on resolving the problems of young people from this local community, as well as on the recognition of non-formal education. The cooperation agreement has so far been signed with the Municipality of Livno and the Municipality of Novi Grad, Sarajevo.

The Summer School programme, which was delivered as part of the training course UMiD Generation 9 from 19 until 24 July 2012 at the Educational-Leisure Centre for Youth SPAJALICA, once again, brought together the future Youth Leaders who were given the opportunity to gain new knowledge about a youth policy, teamwork and leadership, and spend their free time doing meaningful things.

The gained team work skills and the knowledge about a youth policy will enable the Summer School  participants to strive towards strengthening the position of youth in the society.

The first Training Module designed for Youth Leaders UMiD Generation 9, which centred upon civic activism and volunteering, was held from 1 until 3 June 2012, at the Educational-Leisure Centre for Youth SPAJALICA in Ilidža. Young people from 10 local communities from across Bosnia and Herzegovina attended the first Training Module: Trebinje, Mostar, Banja Luka, Zenica, Tuzla, Livno, Gradiška, Lukavac, Ilidža and Novo Sarajevo.

On the first day, the participants were introduced to the project Recognition of UMiD as a training course for active youth participation. The participants also signed the Participant Attendance Agreement, thus were made familiar with the Volunteer Diary. During informal gatherings, these young people had a chance to socialise and get to know each other. Throughout the second day, the participants learned more about the concept of volunteering and the reasons for undertaking voluntary work, history of voluntary work development in BiH and Europe, position of youth in the society and how they can affect changes taking place in their surroundings.

The third day revolved around youth activism as part of which the participants demonstrated their communicative skills. Interviewing the citizens on the streets, collecting garbage, taking photos in order to draw attention to the problems in the community and providing the corresponding possible solutions, were the tasks the participants had to accomplish on a sunny Sunday. Upon expressing their views, opinions and creativity, the future Youth Leaders have demonstrated their commitment and readiness to initiate changes in the society!

After launching a Public Call inviting young people to attend the training programme UMiD (Learn, Think and Act!) Generation 9, which will be open from 6 to 22 April, it is our pleasure to say that we have received application forms from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina (from 49 Municipalities). Over 330 young people in 114 groups have shown their interest in taking part in the training programme.

UMiD is a certified training programme developed for Youth Leaders. The UMiD participants become the citizens who willingly take an initiative, express their opinions and actively participate in decision making processes in their communities. Moreover, their feeling for teamwork, solidarity, creativity and ability to communicate consequently develops. Over 200 young persons from BiH and the region have already undertaken the UMiD training programme.

We would like to thank these young people for showing their interest hoping that they will continue to build their fruitful future by relying on the advantages offered through non-formal education.

The list of groups selected for the training programme will have been published on the website www.mladi.org by 30 April.
