About the project
Orange Voices is an initiative of the Institute for Youth Development KULT whose goal is to promote gender equality.
The Institute for Youth Development KULT commemorated June 25, 2016 – Orange Day – Day of Fighting Against Violence over Women and Girls with the short film “S(HE)?”.
The promotion of the film in March was performed in the Cinema City Multiplex and the story about the women in our society as brave heroines of everyday life was thus successfully completed.
The film crew followed women through their daily lives and they told their story.
“This film was made as a token of gratitude to all women, in order to demonstrate that we endlessly appreciate what they are doing. We decided to dedicate the Orange Day to women who dedicated their lives to fighting, who use their hands, words and deeds to break down the walls of prejudice and create better lives for themselves, those around them, for us and the future generations” – stated Mirela Ajanovi? from the Institute for Youth Development KULT.
The Orange Day is commemorated on every 25th of the month as the day of fighting against violence over women and girls, but it is necessary to emphasize that physical violence is not the only form of violence over women and is not the only manner for women to feel neglected, betrayed and disempowered. According to the data of the Agency for Gender Equality, 52.8% of women suffered some form of violence. Even though there are certain statistical data, it is difficult to refer to concrete numbers.
The Institute for Youth Development KULT, with the support of the American Embassy in Sarajevo, has been conducting the "Orange voices for gender equality" project. One of the aims of the project is to commemorate Orange Day on every 25th of the month by promoting and lobbying for gender equality, commemorating and fighting violence over women and girls and raising public awareness of this problem.
The UN Secretary General declared the 25th of each month as "Orange Day", the day of reminding of importance of preventing, stopping and punishing violence over women and girls.
Activists of the Institute for Youth Development KULT, with the support of the American Embassy in BiH, will commemorate Orange Day - day of fighting violence over women and girls through a cinema projection and premiere of the film "S(HE)?" at "Cinema City" Multiplex in Sarajevo representing women from our society as brave heroines of everyday life.
“We made this film to express our thanks to all women, the magnificent heroines. Thus we wish to prove to them that we absolutely appreciate what they are doing. We wish to emphasize the importance of their lives, because heroism is something that comes naturally to them. Finally, they brought us to this world, but we sadly take often them for granted. Let’s give them what they truly deserve. Gratitude, respect and endless love” – stated Mirela Ajanovi? from the Institute for Youth Development KULT.
The women whose life stories were the topic of the film “S(HE)?” attended the projection.
“We are happy that someone decided to provide an opportunity for women who are not public personas to tell their life stories, because we have something to say. We will continue to fight in order to take our corresponding position in the society” – stated the actors of the film.
After the projection, an event was organized in order for the women from all spheres to exchange experiences and discuss the obstacles they encounter on a daily basis.

Every 25th of the month is commemorated as Orange Day - the day of fighting violence over women and girls. The Institute for Youth Development KULT, with the support of the American Embassy in BiH, organized public dancing with flash mob choreography of the professional dance group "Fresh Generation", in order to emphasize this rarely discussed problem.
The activists of the Institute for Youth Development KULT and the citizens supported fighting violence over women and girls in BiH through dancing, and thus contributed to raising the awareness of BiH citizens on the problem of violence.
The 2013 research of the Agency for Gender Equality in BiH demonstrated that almost half of the research participants experenced at least one form of violence by the age of fifteen.
"The statistics is devastating. It is even more alarming that the recent research demonstrated that the problem of domestic violence in our country is increasing. That is why we have to constantly talk about this. We need to include youth as well, along with all the other social actors, in the long-term complex process of resolving this issue" - stated Mirela Ajanovi? from the Institute for Youth Development KULT.
What gives a particular strength to this initiative is the fact that on the same day and in the same symbolical manner, the campaign is being conducted all over the world, thanks to the Global UNiTE youth network, the member of which is the Institute for Youth Development KULT.

The film will be presented on March 25, 2016, 6 pm, at "Cinema City" Multiplex in Sarajevo.
The short film "S(HE)?" represents women from our society as brave heroines of everyday life. Namely, during the film and also live during the event, the attendants will have the opportunity to introduce themselves to women who stand against prejudice and successfully conquor all daily challenges with their wit.
We wish to thank them for being there and making our lives worth living through their struggle.
"In addition to physical violence, which is mainly being discussed, we should also know that it is important to discuss gender inequality, gender sensitive budgeting, economic dependence of women and other factors that often place them on the social margin. That is why we decided to dedicate this March 25 to women who encounter many problems on a daily basis, but strive to overcome the obstacles and prejudice and find their place in the society" - stated Mirela Ajanovi? from the Institute for Youth Development KULT.

The activists of the Institute for Youth Development KULT, with the support of the American Embassy in BiH, will celebrate this Orange Day through a flash mob dance with the choreography of the professional dance group "Fresh Generation".
We invite you to join in and support fighting violence over women and girls in BiH through dancing. We would like to use this initiative and raise awareness of BiH citizens of the problem of violence that is rarely discussed.
