Attending online classes is near impossible for students without their own computers. To help these students, the Institute for Youth Development KULT launched the initiative #darujzanastavu in the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, which was supported today by the Swedish Ambassador Johanna Strömquist.

The Ambassador and the Institute’s staff visited two families in Vogošća and the village Rječica near Sarajevo and personally gifted students with laptops, books from the Bert Diaries series and words of encouragement that are particularly important in these extraordinary circumstances. She emphasized that education is crucial to young people’s development, and that it is not an exclusive privilege but equally accessible to everyone, like all basic human rights.

Laptops were gifted to students from underprivileged families, and will remain in their possession to help them learn even after they are back in their classrooms. The families were very thankful, but also surprised because they thought their appeal for equipment for their children would fall on deaf ears. The student who got his own laptop promised to do even better in school and was very excited to finally have his own computer. He thanked the Ambassador for the visit and the donation and wished her luck in her work.
