Dialogue for Joint Future

Through the Initiative Dialogue for Joint Future, the Institute for Youth Development KULT is creating a platform in Bosnia and Herzegovina that allows children and youth to learn and cooperate on protecting and accessing basic human rights and fundamental freedoms.

The Institute's intention with this initiative is to encourage young people to actively participate in Bosnia and Herzegovina's EU integration efforts. It is also important to make sure that decision-makers appreciate that young people can offer strong support to Bosnia and Herzegovina's efforts to ensure peace, security and stability. This initiative will encourage 26 young people to become leaders in peace and human rights in BiH, and 26 children will learn about basic children's rights and overcome ethnic and other divisions in our society. By working directly with young people, children and their parents/guardians, the Institute will ensure that young people are aware of their important role in the BiH society, leading them to take action in their local communities, support the work of youth organizations, and network with young people in other local communities across BiH.

UMiD 16: Learning for Life

Last weekend, between September 17 and 19, UMiD 16 participants met up at the Educational-Leisure Center for Youth SPAJALICA after the summer break. The topic of this module was reconciliation. This topic was developed for this generation of participants. During the three-day training, the participants learned about reconciliation processes through different methods, in SPAJALICA and outdoors. Arnela Tursanović from Zenica shared her impressions from the training.

Reconciliation - the topic of this module is very familiar to me, as are the problems we encounter in everyday life. We worked on reconciliation through different exercises, acting, mediation and many other great activities. The progress we made through this module was inevitable and I feel bad for people who choose to live a life of unhappiness and hate speech, instead of living with others in peace and working to have a better future.

Another participant, Selma Dračo shared her experience too:

This module was fantastic. The topic of the module was reconciliation - an extremely important topic, especially for younger generations who are the future of the world. Some things I heard of for the first time, and they turn out to be crucial for peace/reconciliation. I learned some basic techniques we can use to encourage peace and reconciliation. Every day we’re learning more about each other - not a day goes by that we don’t learn something new. As a trainer, Emina was always able to achieve her goals, even in activities that required us not to fail a test. She is phenomenal, caring and always willing to help. I feel like I made such great progress psychologically, thanks to this topic and all the others. I can’t wait for the next module, when I’m sure we’ll learn something new again.

The learning continues, and all of us in generation 16 are eager to complete all the module and take the test so we can see how much we learned during this challenging year. UMiD 16 is implemented within the initiative Dialogue for a Joint Future, supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in BiH.

Summer School for 15th Generation of UMiD Leaders

Over the past 7 days, from July 9 to 15, 23 future young leaders from 13 BiH towns have been spending time together at the Educational-Leisure Center for Youth SPAJALICA during the Learn, Think and Act! Summer school. During the Summer school, participants worked on self-empowerment, learned about human rights and took part in interactive exercises designed to teach them conflict-solving skills. Fair weather allowed them to take advantage of all the amenities offered by Spajalica, including the nearby park where some of the exercises took place.

UMiD Kids: Learning About Choices and Consequences Through Roleplay

More than 20 girls and boys spent another great weekend learning and having fun during our training for our youngest participants - UMiD Kids. Over the weekend, our little participants learned about choices and consequences, and the importance of taking responsibility for their actions.

Institute for Youth Development KULT Provides 15,000 BAM for Youth Initiatives

Youth in BiH are often labeled as passive and indifferent. This, however, couldn’t be further from the truth, as evidenced by the Learn, Think and Act! training for young leaders. Members of the 16th UMiD generation will be implementing their initiatives in 11 cities across BiH in an effort to improve and help their communities. They will have the support of the Institute for Youth Development KULT and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in BiH, who are providing 15,000 BAM of funding to these young people with ideas.
